2. Getting started
In this chapter we go from nothing to a working Autoprint. Give it five minutes. You don't need to be technical for any of this — if you can install a program, you can do this.
The journey has four stops:
- Create an account
- Download the Autoprint program
- Install it
- Check that it's online
Step 1 — Create your account
Create your account on autoprint.shop with your name and email address. As soon as you do, you land straight on your own dashboard. No password to remember: when you want to log in again later, we email you a login button. One click and you're in.
Just after you sign up, you'll receive a welcome email. It contains an installation code — a line starting with ae_. Keep that email handy; you'll need the code shortly.
Step 2 — Download the program
On your dashboard you'll find a link to download the Autoprint program. Click it and save the file. It's an ordinary Windows installer (a .msi).
Your installation code is already built into the file name of the download. That means you usually won't need to type it during installation — which is handy, because copying it by hand is easy to get wrong.
Step 3 — Install it
Double-click the downloaded file and follow the steps. In most cases it's simply clicking Next a couple of times.
- Asked for an "Installation code"? Paste the code from your welcome email (the line starting with
ae_). This only happens if the code couldn't be read from the file name — a safety net, not the rule. - Windows asks for permission to install the program? That's expected; choose Yes.
Once it's done, there's nothing else to start up. From now on Autoprint runs by itself in the background, even after the computer restarts.
Step 4 — Check that it's online
Go back to your dashboard at autoprint.shop. Within a minute you'll see your computer appear there as online. That's the sign that the two halves have found each other: the program on your PC is talking to our cloud service.
